It’s Spring, It’s Spring It’s Spring!!!!

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

"...and she was 'bobbin' along, too!"As I was driving home the other night, I stopped to check on the ice melting situation on the lake.  It was still ICE!

To those of you who don’t live in Northern MN or any other state that FREEZES in the wintertime, this probably seems a little odd.  I can’t really describe the total feeling, but once the lakes are back to ‘water’ stage, it makes me feel great.  That, to me, has become the real sign of spring!

Now I know that you are wondering when I am going to segue topic into quilting, but thatnot today!  I love spring — it has to be my favorite season.   I love to see all of the dormant flowers, shrubs, and trees began to come to life once again.  It makes me feel young — and every year I love it more!

So, my  message of this blog is to encourange you  to get outside and enjoy the sunshine!  Watch the ice melt on the lakes, see the birds return (don’t forget to fill those feeders….like I do….), and let Mother Nature put a smile on your face!

Happy Quilting!!

Have you ever had a day when you felt someone turned up the treadmill?????  I think my treadmill was turned up sometime last week and I am just now noticing it….what does that mean?

It means that it is almost the middle of March and I am just now getting the message out about National Quilting Day….er Month!  The actual day is March 20th but according to my sources we can celebrate all month long.

I think we can use this to our advantage, fellow quilters!  Just think, you can get out of making dinners (or cooking anything else for that matter), doing the laundry, cleaning the house, mowing the lawn (at this time of year that might be a pleasure, though….)or any other chore you would love to NOT do and say, “…gee, I am participating in National Quilt Month.  Can I get back to you on that???”
This is the month to get out those projects that you shelved because you needed a baby/wedding/ graduation/etc. quilt for someone other than yourself.
If you don’t have a ’shelved’ project, then go ahead and buy a new one!  You deserve it!!  When it is all done and you are snuggling under it, you can say, “…..and I made this with all of my fellow quilters during National Quilting Month…”
Okay, I have to go now and begin my own personal journey through National Quilting Month….I do hope my family has plans for dinner!

Farmhouse Blues Quilt -- find it at http://abcsofquilting.com/kits.html

Farmhouse Blues Quilt -- find it at http://abcsofquilting.com/kits.html

Let’s talk about ‘organization’, okay?  I think the best way to begin is with a definition.  And, NO, I am not going to type the one out of a dictionary.  To me, organized is knowing where everything is located but not necessarily in a nice, neat and tidy arrangement.

I read an article the other day about getting organized and the types of containers to use when that urge strikes you.  Since one of the rooms I have consumed with projects was a titch out of control, I decided to purchase some of these containers and fill them as advised with projects.

After buying all of the containers in the correct sizes in the store (by the way, have you noticed the price of these things lately????  Wow…..), I came home and began the process.  To be perfectly honest, I did unearth a project that only needs a couple of borders,  several bags with stash fabrics in them and, of course, a ‘few’  projects.

To begin, I found a project, placed it in the container – with the pattern, even — and snap the lid shut.  Pretty soon I had a tower of containers that resembled the Empire State Building in the middle of my room.  I used up all of the containers, moved the stack into my closet, and noticed that the room didn’t look that much different.  Hmmmm……do you think this means that I have too many projects??????  …..nope, I didn’t either!

So, why am I writing about this?  Just to let you know that I don’t think it is necessary to spend hours of your quilting time worrying about how neat and tidy your sewing space is every day.  Quilting is an artform and artists don’t have to be organized — just creative!

Enjoy your creativity!!!
